Our methodology

How we compare casinos

Our scores are editorial assessments — consistent, independent, and based on a defined set of criteria. Here is exactly what we look at.

What our scores mean

Scores are assigned on a 1–10 scale. No operator we have reviewed has scored below 6.5 or above 9 — this reflects a real spread of quality within a pool of UKGC-licensed operators that have all met a baseline regulatory standard.

Scores are comparison tools. A score of 8.0 does not mean a site is objectively excellent — it means it performs better than a 7.5 across our criteria. Scores are not permanent: we revise them when an operator makes significant changes.

Our scores are editorial opinions. They are not official ratings, not regulatory assessments, and not guarantees of quality, fairness, or outcomes for any individual player.

Assessment criteria

1

UKGC licence status

Entry requirement

Any operator we review must hold an active UK Gambling Commission licence. This is a hard requirement — no licence means no listing. We verify via the UKGC public register.

2

Offer clarity and terms transparency

High

We assess how clearly promotional terms are presented: whether wagering requirements are stated upfront, whether minimum deposit conditions are visible before sign-up, and whether full terms are reachable without multiple clicks.

3

Site usability and navigation

Moderate

We evaluate how easy the site is to navigate, how well the game lobby is organised, and how functional the search and filter tools are. Sites that bury key information or use dark UX patterns receive lower marks here.

4

Payment options

Moderate

We note which payment methods are accepted for deposits and withdrawals, whether the site complies with the UKGC ban on credit card gambling, and whether withdrawal times are stated clearly.

5

Game variety and software providers

Moderate

We review the breadth of the game catalogue across slots, live casino, and table games. We note which software providers are represented, as this affects both the range and quality of available content.

6

Mobile experience

Moderate

We assess the site on mobile browsers and note whether a dedicated app exists. Criteria include load speed, navigation usability on touchscreens, and whether responsible gambling tools remain accessible on mobile.

7

Responsible gambling tools

High

This category covers the availability and accessibility of deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, self-exclusion, cooling-off periods, and GAMSTOP integration. Sites where these tools are hard to find receive lower scores.

How operators are selected

We select operators based on their relevance to UK players, their UKGC licence status, and our editorial judgement about which brands are worth comparing. We do not include every licensed operator — our comparison covers a curated selection.

Operators are not charged for inclusion, nor do they pay for higher scores. We have affiliate relationships with some of the operators we list — this means we may earn a commission if you register via our links — but these relationships do not determine which operators are included or how they are scored.

We remove operators that lose their UKGC licence, cease UK operations, or raise serious concerns that make continued listing inappropriate.

Important limitations

  • ·Our reviews are snapshots. Casino products change frequently. Scores may not reflect the most recent version of a site.
  • ·We do not verify live bonus availability or confirm current promotional terms. Always check the operator's own site.
  • ·Our scores reflect our editorial team's assessment. Other reviewers may reach different conclusions using different criteria.
  • ·We do not test customer support response times or withdrawal processes through personal accounts.
  • ·Being listed here does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of any kind.
